Our Ethos

A Christian Church

At BGBC, we are a church that seeks to know Christ and make Him known. We believe in the authority of Scripture and uphold it as the sufficient and trustworthy standard for both our faith and daily practice.

A Baptist Church

We are part of a rich Baptist tradition and affirm the distinctives that shape Baptist faith and life. These include believer’s baptism by immersion and congregational church government, where decisions are prayerfully made by the gathered body. We are a member church of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, through the Central Baptist Association.

An Ecumenical Church

We are ecumenically-minded, valuing fellowship and cooperation with other Christian traditions. BGBC is an active member of Churches Together in South, Central and West Watford, and takes part in the shared witness and mission of Christians Across Watford.

We also host a number of other Christian congregations in our premises on Sundays, and throughout the week.

An Inclusive Church

At BGBC, we love and care for all of God's creation. Shaped by evangelical convictions and an inclusive spirit, we honour and respect all Christian backgrounds, and invite those at every stage of belief—or even unbelief—to find a place among us. BGBC is a safe and thoughtful space to seek, reflect, question, dialogue, and walk the road of faith together.

Our Faith

Peace and Reconciliation

Through Christ, God has accomplished a work of peace and reconciliation. True peace with God—and ultimately with one another—comes through receiving Christ into one’s life and believing in His gospel. Those who become Christians are called not only to personal faith but to express and grow that faith within the body of believers.

This global body encompasses many Christian traditions, yet it is vital for every believer to be united with a local congregation where they can serve, grow, and worship together.

Baptism and Communion

For Baptists, believer’s baptism by immersion is a deeply meaningful act. It represents a personal commitment to Christ and His church, serving as a powerful testimony of one’s faith. Baptism is one of the two ordinances of the church; the other is the Lord’s Supper, or Communion, which we typically observe each month in remembrance of Christ's sacrifice.

The Mission of the Church

The Church, as the body of Christ, is called to be His representative in the world—living out His teachings, demonstrating His love, and responding to both spiritual and physical needs with compassion. This mission is defined and guided by Scripture, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, who equips believers with gifts for service and witness.

Through the Spirit’s power, disciples of Christ testify—in both word and action—to His Lordship, and they live in hope, looking forward to the day when He will return in glory. For just as Christ died and rose again, so too will He come again!

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When
We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team who will be wearing a Welcome lanyard.

We always serve Tea and Coffee after the service in the Oasis, so please hang around and say hi.

Accessibility
There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets in the main foyer.

Our Service
The main service begins at 10:30am with a warm welcome from one of our Deacons. Then follows a time of sung worship, led by our musicians.

Our minister will then give a sermon that is Bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We then finish with a final worship song. Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

What about my kids?
Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome, songs and notices. We really value worshipping God all together as a family. At the end of the notices someone will announce that it’s time for the younger members to go to the Sunday school. Our volunteers have DBS and have level 3 safeguarding training. Whilst you are dropping your kids off at their groups, we pause to take time to chat to someone sitting near or next to us, giving folk a chance to come back before the sermon begins.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, testimonies, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play. The children will return to the meeting before the service finishes.

*Please note that our Sunday school may not operate every Sunday, but we are aiming to make this happen in the near future.

We normally have a slot within the service to interact with the children/youth, normally a story or lesson from the Bible.
